The recipe ingredients tab.

The ingredients tab of the recipe details page is the tab that is selected by default when you first open a recipe and it contains a lot of the features you will use when entering the details of your recipes.

Recipe ingredients

When the ingredients tab is selected, the information below it can be divided into 3 areas:

  1. The ingredients list with their quantities
  2. Action button controls to take various actions
  3. Controls to enable the selection and adding of more ingredients into the ingredient list

The process for selecting and adding an ingredient into the ingredient list is covered in detail in the Mise-en-place / Quick start tutorial topic, so it is not covered here.
Note that this area will not be present if you have opened a recipe from the Set cookbook.

The ingredient list shows the individual ingredients that you have added to the recipe along with the quantity of each required to make up the number of portions specified in the recipe header.

The "Cost" column will show the calculated cost of the amount of the ingredient specified. This will only be correct if the ingredient has a pack size and a cost associated with it. If not, then the cost column will show a zero. Turn to the topic on Ingredients for more details about pack size and cost.

In the screen shot above there are also columns for Vegetarian and Vegan shown. Whether or not these columns are shown to you is dependent on your Preference settings - you can "turn them off" if you don't want to see them. You can access your preference settings via the Account / My Preferences option.

The Quantity Calculator column will initially show the same amount as is shown in the Quantity column. However, if you alter the number in the Quantity Calculator box in the recipe HEADER and click "Calculate", then the Quantity Calculator column will show the amount of each ingredient needed to prepare that number of portions.

In the screen shot above you will notice the small icon Edit name iconalongside the name of each of the ingredients. Clicking this will enable you to enter an alternative name for that ingredient which is used when the recipe is printed. This can be helpful if the recipe will be followed by another person and the standard name of the ingredient does not represent how you would normally describe it.

The next topic page will discuss the action button controls in detail.
